Controlled Ankle Motion Boot Versus Immobilisation for Acute Ankle Sprain Rehabilitation: RCT Evidence (youtube.com)

0xBASE INTEL BRIEF
  • CAM boot resulted in significantly faster return to function than plaster cast immobilisation.
  • No difference in re-rupture rate between groups.
  • Evidence supports early functional rehabilitation for ankle sprains.

"This randomised controlled trial compares controlled ankle motion (CAM boot) with traditional immobilisation (cast) for acute ankle sprains. Results show significantly faster return to function and less stiffness in the CAM boot group, with no increase in re-rupture rates. The evidence supports the use of CAM boots as the preferred acute management option in Irish practice. Outcomes were measured at 4- and 12-week follow-up using functional scores and range of motion."
