Cam Morphology and Hip Joint Torsional Loading Before and After FAI Surgery (ptinquest.libsyn.com)
- Cam deformity increases hip torsion during flexion and internal rotation.
- Arthroscopic osteoplasty significantly reduces torsional loading.
- Biomechanical basis for cam resection confirmed.
"This study investigated the effect of cam femoroacetabular impingement on torsional loading of the hip joint. Researchers measured torsional forces in cadaveric hips with and without cam morphology before and after simulated arthroscopic osteoplasty. Results showed that cam deformity increased torsional loading during hip flexion and internal rotation. After surgical removal of the cam, torsional loading decreased significantly, suggesting that cam correction may reduce abnormal hip joint stresses. The findings provide biomechanical rationale for FAI surgery and help clinicians understand load distribution in hip pathology."
