Scoping Review of Pelvic Floor Disorders in Young Nulliparous Female Athletes in Athletics: Epidemiology, Aetiology, Care, and Prevention (pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov)
0xBASE INTEL BRIEF
- Prevalence of urinary incontinence: 18.2%–58.3%
- Complex risk factors: intrinsic, extrinsic, environmental
- No studies on prevention or treatment efficacy
"This scoping review analysed 29 articles on pelvic floor disorders (PFDs) in young nulliparous female athletes in athletics. Prevalence of urinary incontinence ranged from 18.2% to 58.3%. Risk factors are complex and include intrinsic factors (e.g., eating disorders, low energy availability) and extrinsic factors (e.g., sports practice, environment). A major gap was found: no articles evaluate the efficacy of care or prevention strategies for PFDs in this population."
