Scapular Muscle Activity During Y-Raise with Isometric Adduction in Rounded Shoulder Posture (tandfonline.com)
- Rounded shoulder posture alters scapular muscle activation during Y-raise.
- Isometric adduction during Y-raise enhances serratus anterior activity.
- Y-raise with adduction may improve scapular control in RSP.
"This study compared scapular muscle activation during Y-raise exercise with isometric adduction in individuals with and without rounded shoulder posture (RSP). Surface EMG was recorded from upper trapezius (UT), lower trapezius (LT), and serratus anterior (SA). Results showed that subjects with RSP had significantly higher UT/LT ratio and lower SA activation compared to controls. Adding isometric adduction during Y-raise improved SA activation in the RSP group, suggesting it may be beneficial for correcting muscle imbalances associated with rounded shoulders. Clinicians can consider incorporating isometric adduction into Y-raise exercises for patients with RSP to enhance scapular stability."
