"A randomized, placebo-controlled double-blind study investigated the effect of low-intensity long-duration ultrasound on symptomatic relief of knee osteoarthritis. Despite the widespread view that therapeutic ultrasound is 'ultraplacebo', results showed significant pain reduction and functional improvement compared to placebo. The study was published by Draper et al. in the Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research. These findings suggest that specific ultrasound parameters may be clinically effective in selected patient populations."
